As your supply dwindles, make sure that you are ordering your pellets from somewhere that can get you your pellets quickly. (We&#8217;re very happy to report that in most Woodpellets.com service regions,\u00a0<strong>delivery is now within one week<\/strong>!) Stay ahead of your supply level and order before you&#8217;re out, or close to being out.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1607\" alt=\"EmergencyItems\" src=\"https:\/\/woodpellets.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/EmergencyItems.png\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/woodpellets.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/EmergencyItems.png 250w, https:\/\/woodpellets.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/EmergencyItems-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>With the cold weather comes some serious hazards both in the home and outside. Of course, there&#8217;s nothing to be done about weather &#8211; but you can never be too prepared!<\/p>\n<p>Some helpful safety items you should have on hand include a First Aid kit, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/True-Temper-AutoBoss-Emergency-Shovel\/dp\/B00474JDFI\" target=\"_blank\">sturdy trunk shovel<\/a>, flashlights with extra batteries, emergency\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Emergency-Mylar-Thermal-Blankets-Pack\/dp\/B000GCRWCG\/ref=pd_sim_lg_5?ie=UTF8&amp;refRID=0BAWC73D6NYRC18AA5B0\" target=\"_blank\">thermal blankets<\/a>, hand and toe warmer packs, and ice traction\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.llbean.com\/llb\/shop\/43355\" target=\"_blank\">boot attachments<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We are always reminding folks to order wood bricks\/pellets early to be prepared for early cold and\/or a long heating season. However, there are many more precautions to take, according to FEMA:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stay indoors during any storms or cases of extreme cold.<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"display: inline !important;\">If you must go outside, wear several layers of loose-fitting, lightweight, warm clothing rather than one layer of heavy clothing. The outer garments should be tightly woven and water repellent.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wear mittens, which are warmer than gloves.\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.5;\">Wear a hat, to prevent loss of body heat.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.5;\">Cover your mouth with a scarf to protect your lungs.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.5;\">Walk carefully on snowy, icy, walkways.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Keep dry. Change wet clothing frequently to prevent a loss of body heat. Wet clothing loses all of its insulating value and transmits heat rapidly.<\/li>\n<li>Drive only if it is absolutely necessary. If you must drive: travel in the day; don\u2019t travel alone; keep others informed of your schedule; stay on main roads and avoid back road shortcuts.\n<ul>\n<li>Let someone know your destination, your route, and when you expect to arrive. If your car gets stuck along the way, help can be sent along your predetermined route.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>If the pipes freeze, remove any insulation or layers of newspapers and wrap pipes in rags.
