If you installed a pellet stove in 2024, now\u2019s your time to shine!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wondering why you get a tax credit for your wood pellet stove or how this credit first came about? <a href=\"https:\/\/woodpellets.com\/blog\/2024\/11\/26\/heat-smarter-wood-pellet-stoves-eligible-for-major-tax-savings\/\">You can find more details here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that you\u2019re all caught up, here\u2019s how to file:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Ensure your unit has a thermal efficiency of at least 75% per the higher heating value (HHV) of the stove.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fill out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/pub\/irs-pdf\/f5695.pdf\">IRS Form 5695<\/a>, the, Residential Energy Credits Part II, with your tax return.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Claim the credit on line 29c, &#8220;Qualified biomass fuel property costs.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Include the cost of the stove and the cost of the professional installation.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remember, the 30% tax credit is capped at $2,000 annually, based on the full cost of the unit, including installation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep in mind that the credit is non-refundable, so you won&#8217;t be owed money if your tax bill is less than the credit. This credit can be claimed annually on qualified home improvements through the end of 2032.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The credit for installation of a wood pellet stove falls under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/inflation-reduction-act-of-2022\">Inflation Reduction Act<\/a>, giving homeowners who make such improvements increased tax credit eligibility. This credit is in addition to the savings in monthly energy bills seen by wood stove users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When filling out the applicable IRS Form 5695, consider whether you\u2019ve made other eligible upgrades, including:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Solar electric property<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Solar water property<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Small wind property<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Geothermal property<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Battery storage property<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fuel cell property<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tax season is here.
