Some great prizes were given out (a free professional pellet stove cleaning and PelletBucks) but we also learned so many new ideas for how to repurpose bags!<\/p>\n<p>The photo to the left was our contest winner&#8217;s submission.\u00a0This photo illustrates how she uses her empty bags for sorting her\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/TerraCycle\" data-hovercard=\"\/ajax\/hovercard\/page.php?id=224583260713\">TerraCycle<\/a>\u00a0Brigade recycling. It looks like she uses an empty diaper box for sorting as well! The Terracycle Brigade program collects previously non-recyclable or hard to recycle waste, with free shipping as well as a donation for each piece of garbage recycled.<\/p>\n<p>We loved that she takes extra time and care for not-so-simple recycling, and that our empty <a title=\"Cleanfire Douglas Fir\" href=\"https:\/\/woodpellets.com\/heating-fuels\/wood-pellets-details.aspx?brandinvg=CFDF\" target=\"_blank\">Cleanfire Douglas Fir<\/a>\u00a0pellet bags are a part of her process!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Although not everyone could come in first place, we loved all the ideas! Here are some of the ways our fans repurpose (or upcycle) their bags:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Summer activity: make <a title=\"How to Make a Water Blob Out of Empty Pellet Bags\" href=\"https:\/\/woodpellets.com\/blog\/2014\/07\/03\/how-to-make-a-water-blob-out-of-empty-pellet-bags\/\" target=\"_blank\">a pellet bag Water Blob!<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Use the shroud to wrap up Christmas tree<\/li>\n<li>Kitchen and bathroom trash bags<\/li>\n<li>Split them in half and cover new grass seed patches in the early spring when it is still cold (mini greenhouses!)<\/li>\n<li>Bags for recyclables,\u00a0returnable bottles and cans<\/li>\n<li>Pet waste pickup bags<\/li>\n<li>Assemble together for tarps and covers<\/li>\n<li>Screened room winter window covers<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Use under and around pallets of pellets to avoid weeds and moisture<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Cut them into strips and use them along the fencing in garden to flap in the wind and scare away birds<\/li>\n<li>Use as sturdy manure bags for horses<\/li>\n<li>Padding in packages for shipping<\/li>\n<li>Cut up to use as shipping packages<\/li>\n<li>Wrapping paper (activity: kids can decorate with markers!)<\/li>\n<li>Cut them to fit over plants as mini greenhouses or frost protection<\/li>\n<li>Line planters for easy Fall removal<\/li>\n<li>Use in workshop for sawdust and wood chunks<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.5;\">Weed-blocker under patio area: cut and duct tape together, cover with sand and put patio blocks over<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Line flower beds, before covering with mulch<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Do you have any ideas to share?<\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In honor of Earth Day, we ran a challenge on our Woodpellets.com Facebook page\u00a0to find out about some uses for empty pellet bags.
